Sound Anchors Review - from Glenn Rosenstein
Glenn Rosenstein, joined a zoom call with our marketing maven, Alexis Montano, recently to talk about his experience with Sound Anchors products. Glenn is a producer and highly sought-after mixer and remix engineer, creating work for such artists as U2, Madonna, Talking Heads, The Ramones, Ziggy Marley, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, James Brown, Miles Davis and many others. Glenn tells the story of the time Bernie (owner of Sound Anchors) visited the FAME studio to set up new stands and details about the new Neve room they recently built.
Below is the video and the transcript of that conversation in which he provides a Sound Anchors review:
Alexis: Great. So, I'd love to know a little bit about your experience with the Sound Anchors product. Well, I'm Glenn Rosenstein.
Glenn: I'll give you a little, yeah. I'm Glenn Rosenstein, a record producer for many, many years and a customer of Sound Anchors. Um, some of the best, uh, speaker stands made right now. Um, a little bit of background.
We started a relationship with Sound Anchors, uh, based upon a recording studio that I'm partnered with down in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. And that studio is called Fame, Great History, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, and a lot of contemporary artists as well. And, uh, we're in the process of building a very, very nice vintage Neve room, in addition to the Neve room that we already have.
And, you know, we're sitting and talking about Monitoring solutions and how to get the best possible sound, acoustic treatment, all that kind of thing. And of course, the first thing we're thinking about is We're about to get some massively large speakers and what kind of stands can we have that would not only support speakers this size but would contribute to, you know, the sound quality of them.
We're spending a lot, a lot of money on monitoring. We're spending a lot of money on, on, uh, you know, on the room itself and on the acoustics of the room. Um, and, um, my first call was to Bernie, the owner. Of, uh, of sound anchor and reaching out and saying, help me, brother, help me. So, uh, he sure did. I don't recall, uh, off the top of my head, what the model number was, but they are the size that fits the Adam S five H's those speakers probably weigh in the range of about 250 pounds a piece.
They're pretty big.
Alexis: Yeah.
Glenn: And um, and, and they really do need to have a deadened environment. Uh, you know, holding them, no resonant frequencies, all of that. So Bernie, of course, made a great recommendation as to the proper product. And I'm happy to share with you. He actually drove them to our studio where he filled them with sand, which I think was great, but only added to the weight.
I mean, you could imagine the weight of these speakers being held by the weight. Of, you know, these solid metal, uh, stands and the tubes themselves filled with sand. Um, and. I will tell you that they just sound remarkable. They sound remarkable, and they were a real integral part of how a studio, my, our studio B in fame also has, uh, they're, they're not quite as big because they're a smaller speaker, but, um, we have the, uh, we, we have the, these, the sound anger stands as well in there, and it's just been a reliable product for many, many years.
Um, I have them in my studio in Nashville. Um, it's just, uh, it's something I don't feel like I can do without.
Alexis: So that's a great endorsement or Sound Anchors review. Yeah. Um, can you just speak to me since I'm a novice in this world, what would be the difference between a speaker on and sound anchor stand and maybe, you know, a less expensive stand.
Glenn: What is what is the result of speakers that are equally as expensive and yet do not necessarily perform quite as well.
And that's the answer. That's the answer. Um, all speakers generate sound sound generates resonant frequencies. And whether or not the actual device that it's sitting on the table, if you will, resonates at a certain frequency or dampens.
That sounded a certain frequency. It could potentially be adding to the sound, adding unwanted resonance to the sound itself. So you go out and buy, you know, monitors that are in the 25, 000 plus range or more, and if you put them on a stand that has intrinsic and inherent, uh, frequencies. It may accentuate.
You're not getting the true sound of the speaker and you're defeating the purpose of buying, you know, speakers in that range. You want it to be as true as possible. And the thing that we found with the sound anchors speakers is it does exactly that. It's sonic neutral, if that makes sense. And we don't hear any additional ringing or tone or anything like that.
So they're reliable sonically and equally as important. They are remarkably well constructed. I'm fond of saying to my partner at fame, long after famous gone, these stands will survive everything. They will survive anything that that's thrown their way. So yeah, it was a no brainer choice for us.
Alexis: Wonderful. Thank you so much. Appreciate it.
