Sound Anchors: The Ultimate Support Speaker Stand
Sound Anchors's mission has been and continues to be to create the ultimate support speaker stand. We do this by factoring several important elements into our design that help to create a superior sound experience. This article outlines the aspects you should know about for proper studio design and the points we consider when we design and manufacture the ultimate support speaker stands.
Get Speakers off of Furniture
Speakers don't belong on top of a desk or any furniture. When speakers are placed on your desktop, a shelf, or other surface, their performance can be compromised. The speakers will interact with these surfaces, creating early reflections from the top of the furniture. Also, many all-in-one desks lack mass, which can cause the speakers to resonate with the furniture, leading to unwanted vibrations and problematic frequency build-up. Both of these issues can affect sound quality.
To avoid these problems we recommend that speakers be placed on high-quality speaker stands. Sound Anchors stands are rigid and heavy and are designed to help reduce unwelcome vibrations by providing a stable, isolated platform for the speakers
Consider Subwoofer Placement and Support
When it comes to subwoofers proper placement is crucial. To optimize your subwoofer placement, follow the rule of thirds by positioning the sub either one-third from the right or left wall, and avoid placing it in a corner. Corners may increase bass volume but result in inaccurate sound.
While Subwoofer placement is important it's also beneficial to place the subwoofer on a stand. This helps control the energy transmission to the floor and within the cabinet, resulting in a cleaner, more natural sound without unwanted interactions.
Do Some Geometry
Setting up speakers in an equilateral triangle is a popular method, where the distance between the speakers matches the distance from each speaker to the listening position. Here’s a quick method:
Set up a mic stand behind the listening spot.
Place the laser measure on top of the front of each speaker.
Rotate the speaker slightly until the laser points at the mic stand.
To make this process easier, consider using a $40 laser tape measure. With a laser measure, wrench, and a friend, you can get it done in about 20 minutes.
Additionally, make sure the high-frequency driver is at ear level and within 13 degrees vertically. Our adjustable speaker stands can help with this setup. The room, listening position, and other equipment dictate the ideal location and orientation for the speakers. Once this optimal position is identified, our stands will ensure the speakers are placed correctly.
The investment in the ultimate support speaker stand is worth it. While your speakers may change over time, a durable set of speaker stands can serve you well for years.
