When it comes to selecting a studio monitor stand there are some main points to consider:
Monitor Size & Weight
First, it's essential that you make sure the stand is compatible with your monitor's size and weight. A stand should be able to hold a weight greater than that of your speaker. For size, ideally, the platform will be the same or smaller than the size of the monitor (W x D), but still large enough to create a stable base for the speaker. In most cases we find monitors usually are too big for a stand before they are too heavy.
The Sound Anchors ADJ1 Studio Monitor Stands are designed to support up to 100 pounds and a maximum monitor depth of 13” and width of 20”. These height adjustable stands have a 14”Wx17”D base, come with either 44” or 56” uprights and standard 10”x14” platforms.
The Sound Anchors ADJ2 Studio Monitor Stands are designed to support up to 100 pounds and are made for monitors that are bigger, supporting a maximum monitor depth of 18” and width of 24”. These height adjustable stands have a 17”Wx23”D base, come with either 44” or 56” uprights and standard 12”x16” platforms.
The Sound Anchor ADJ3 Studio Monitor Stands were designed to allow the engineer to correctly place two pairs of monitors behind the console. The ADJ3 can support the same weight and size monitors as the ADJ1.
If you need a lateral adjustment the Studio Monitor Stand w/ Lateral Adjustment ADJ4 can support the same weight and size as the ADJ1, but can be adjusted from side to side which facilitates "best" lateral speaker positioning.
For larger, heavier monitors or combinations of monitors and/or subwoofers Sound Anchors Mid & Far Field Studio Monitor Stands, ADMID stands, are the right choice.
The ADMID stands come with either 46” or 56” uprights. The width of the stand and the length of the speaker support bars are based on the monitor width and depth. SO, when ordering ADMID stands always specify the manufacturer and model of the monitors to be used. To determine which ADMID size to order:
Determine monitor width
If placing a subwoofer below monitor determine subwoofer width
Using the wider of the two dimensions above, round up to next whole inch
Add 1” to define ADMID width (distance between uprights)
Select appropriate size based on ADMID width
ADMID1 Up to 19”
ADMID2 20” to 29”
ADMID3 30” to 39”
ADMID4 40” to 49”
Determine height required, 46” or 56” Uprights
Speaker support bars will be fabricated to match monitor depth
For example:
ATC SCM110ASL Pro monitors are 24.6”W. Rounding up to 25” and adding 1”, the stand will need to be 26”W. If maximum placement height is 44”, then 46” uprights will be a good fit. So the proper stand to order would be “ADMID2-46 for ATC SCM110ASL Pro”
